Gerald Huse
May 21, 2026
Gerald “Jerry” Arno Huse of Fairmont, MN, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and love for the land. He was born on November 7, 1933, in Elm Creek Township, MN. Jerry was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alpha, MN and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Dunnell, MN. He attended country school at Jay Township 96. Jerry spent his years farming in Jay Township tending to the crops and livestock with the same dedication he gave his family and church.
After graduating from high school in Sherburn, MN, Jerry continued his studies and honed his basketball skills at Gustavus Adolphus College. In 1955, he enlisted in the United States Army. It was another chance to showcase his dedication on the court. His time on a US Army Basketball team afforded him opportunities to play across the country and sow the seeds for his travel interests later in life.
On July 7, 1956, Jerry married his beautiful sweetheart, Patricia Engel at the Methodist Church in Sherburn. Jerry was known for his steady presence, love for his family, and his willingness to help a neighbor in need. He served at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sherburn Lions Club, and as a worker and board member for Habitat for Humanity. Jerry’s selfless nature also called him to serve for twelve years on his local Sherburn school board.
A true steward of the soil, Jerry lived by the belief that a day’s work was only done when the chores were finished. Whether in a combine, working on machinery, or caring for the cattle, he found great satisfaction in the quiet routines and breathtaking sunsets of country life.
Amidst the demanding farm schedule, Jerry and Pat were still able to explore the world beyond their acreage and visited 35 countries over the years. For the past 20+ winters, including just this past one, they continued to enjoy the sunshine of Arizona and meet many new friends. Jerry was always up for a game of cards or watching sporting events. Grandpa Jerry took great pride watching his sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren participate in High School and college sports.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 70 years, Patricia “Pat” Huse, now of Fairmont, MN. His two sons, Greg (Catherine) and Brad (Bethany), will cherish the legacy left behind. Jerry’s journey as a grandfather started with Greg’s two daughters, Erica (Luke) Hess and Elisha (Mojca) Remskar, and then later continued with Brad’s two children, Jordan and Natalie (Kody) Pronschinske. Jerry later earned the title of Great Grandfather with the addition of Ethan and Caden Hess, and later, Tristan and Aidan Remskar. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and dear friends and neighbors. After 92+ years of life, he was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Edna (Borchert) Huse and brothers, Wally, Jim, Lavern, an infant brother and a sister, Donna Mulso.
A service to celebrate Jerry’s full life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn, MN. Full military honors will be provided by the Thomas P. Saxton American Legion Post #356 and the Sherburn Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #8261 of Sherburn following the service outside the church. Burial will follow at Sherburn Cemetery.
